AEROSPACE MANUFACTURING-TRANSFER PLANNING
Make the handoff clear
before production moves
Prepare a controlled handoff between manufacturing sites. Connect the technical baseline, receiving-site readiness, supply dependencies and evidence needed for the next decision.
WHEN A HANDOFF NEEDS SUPPORT
A transfer changes
more than the site address
A receiving site needs the right product definition, materials, routes, tooling, people and acceptance evidence at the right time. A shipment date alone does not show whether those conditions are aligned.
We support program and operations teams coordinating an international manufacturing transfer, a receiving-site handoff or a supplier transition. The work makes outstanding inputs, dependencies and decision owners visible so the responsible team can judge readiness.
Start with the current baseline
- The product and revision in scope, including customer variants and open changes.
- Bills of materials, manufacturing routes and the systems holding the approved data.
- Origin-site and receiving-site responsibilities, transfer milestones and onward delivery commitments.
- Tooling, material, training, quality and acceptance requirements identified by the responsible specialists.
Use a non-confidential overview for the first discussion. Access to controlled drawings, customer information or export-controlled material requires an agreed handling arrangement.
A WORKING TRANSFER PLAN
Connect the baseline
to the receiving site
- Define what transfersRecord scope, revisions, assumptions, interfaces and completion criteria. Track open engineering changes against the handoff date.
- Reconcile production informationMap BOMs, routes, material references and relevant ERP data. Assign review ownership for mismatches between the source package and receiving-site records.
- Sequence receiving-site preparationConnect tooling, supply, training, capacity and specialist review dependencies to the schedule. Name the evidence expected at each checkpoint.
- Prepare the transfer decisionMaintain an open-item and decision register. Separate confirmed evidence, unresolved questions and accepted exceptions so authorised owners can judge the next step.
Typical deliverables include a transfer scope and responsibility map, a baseline reconciliation register, a milestone and dependency plan, and a readiness review with evidence links and action owners. The exact scope and review cadence are agreed at the outset.
ILLUSTRATIVE HANDOFF
Make a revision mismatch
an owned decision
Original example. No client, site or employer records.
Suppose the release package refers to drawing revision C, while a receiving-site route still references revision B. The transfer milestone is approaching, but the effect of the change has not been assessed.
What the review should show
Record the affected part and operation, each source revision, the owner of the technical assessment, the evidence needed and the decision date. Keep the item open until the responsible owner establishes whether the route, tooling, instruction or acceptance evidence must change.
Why the distinction matters
“Data uploaded” and “ready for production” answer different questions. A useful transfer review traces the data to the approved baseline and the receiving operation. The coordinator keeps the issue visible; authorised engineering and quality owners decide the technical disposition.
Use the ten-area transfer checklist to record owners, dates and evidence. A checked review item is an observation about the submitted evidence, not a regulatory approval or a production-release decision.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Production data
and international handoffs
Victor participated in and coordinated international A330neo interiors manufacturing transfers. His production-transfer work connected ERP master data, bills of materials and manufacturing routes. He also participated in a carbon-fibre cascade manufacturing transfer for an Airbus program.

Capabilities used in this assignment
- Supplier Strategy and Technical Evaluation: Connect supplier decisions to engineering and delivery needs.
- Technical Baseline and Configuration Control: Keep the technical baseline and changes aligned.
- Certification, Test, and Execution Readiness: Prepare the work and evidence for the next review.
SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITY
Keep readiness evidence
and approval distinct
Who approves the transfer?
Technical decisions, engineering sign-off and final approvals remain with the responsible authorised specialists and authorities. The assignment coordinates scope, actions, information and reviews. It does not replace the customer’s quality system, an engineering approval or a regulatory determination.
Can you support a transfer already in progress?
The starting point can be the current milestone, the open issues and the receiving-site constraints. First reconcile what is approved, what has changed and which decisions remain outstanding.
What if engineering capacity is the constraint?
Separate the work and review hours by skill and place them against the milestone. The engineering capacity and program-planning service addresses that related decision.
Prepare the next transfer review
Start with the handoff scope, the next milestone and the unresolved decisions. We can define the coordination work and the evidence the team needs.
